I’m thrilled to welcome you to the Daniel Fast, starting January 1 and running through January 21. This is not just a diet change; it’s a spiritual journey of aligning our hearts and minds with God. The goal of this fast is not to be a burden but to simplify our eating so we can focus on growing closer to Him.
To help you prepare, here’s a quick overview of the foods to enjoy and avoid during this time:
Foods to Enjoy
- Fresh fruits (apples, oranges, bananas, berries, etc.)
- Vegetables (spinach, broccoli, kale, carrots, etc.)
- Legumes (lentils, chickpeas, black beans, etc.)
- Whole grains (brown rice, quinoa, oats, etc.)
- Nuts (almonds, walnuts, cashews, etc.)
- Seeds (chia, flax, sunflower seeds, etc.)
- Plant-based oils (olive oil, coconut oil, etc.)
- Natural nut butters (without added sugar)
- Herbs and spices (basil, rosemary, cinnamon, etc.)
- Non-dairy milk (almond milk, coconut milk, etc.)
- Sweet potatoes
- Avocado
- Tofu and tempeh
- Herbal teas
- Coconut water
- Tomatoes
- Mushrooms
- Cucumbers
- Fresh salsa
Foods to Avoid
- Added sugar (soda, candy, desserts, etc.)
- Fast food
- Processed foods (chips, crackers, etc.)
- White flour and bread
- Meat (optional)
- Dairy (milk, cheese, butter, etc.)
- Fried foods
- Sweetened beverages (juice, energy drinks, etc.)
- Artificial sweeteners
- Alcohol
- Packaged snacks
- Store-bought dressings with sugar or additives
- Canned foods with preservatives
- Margarine
- Processed plant-based meats
- White rice
- Coffee (optional, but encouraged to avoid)
- Soft drinks
- Granola bars with sugar
- Jams and jellies with sugar
